Do your own fundraising
Whether this is your first time or you’re a seasoned fundraiser, everyone needs a little inspiration to get started. From bake sales and film nights to fun runs and sponsored silences, there are lots of creative ways to raise money to help end domestic abuse.
Feminist book club
Not sure where to start organising a book club? Let us help! We’ve developed a pack with lots of top tips and book ideas, it’s free to download and will hopefully give you everything you need to get reading and get fundraising at the same time! Its got some posters to help you promote your book club too.
Feminist film night
Our free pack has everything you need to organise your film night. Find a great venue (or do it at home or work), choose your favourite films and charge a £5 donation at the door – you could even add a bit extra for a carton of popcorn. If you’re struggling for film suggestions, our pack has got some great ideas – Thelma and Louise anyone?
Donate your plate
With a group of friends or colleagues, take it in turn to host a dinner party, with guests scoring the parties to crown the dinner party champion! Each guest makes a donation to Women’s Aid equal to the amount they would pay for a meal out.
We’ve got great recipe ideas from Michelin starred chef Tom Aikens, Meera Sodha and Madeleine Shaw to get you started.
Bake sale
A bake sale or coffee morning is a classic way to make money and is always a winner! Whether at home, school or work – baking is a great way to fundraising success.
Maybe set up a Bake Off style challenge and get everyone involved. Choose a date, choose your categories and then advertise it!
Take on a virtual challenge
You could climb the 8,848m of Everest, using the stairs or a climbing wall. Divide the challenge by 10 people with each person climbing the equivalent of 884.8m. Check out The Conqueror Events app for ideas on exciting virtual challenges you can participate in. Ask people to sponsor your efforts and watch your total mount up – just like those metres. Set up a JustGiving page so people can donate and the money, including any Gift Aid, automatically gets sent to us.
Want to do the real thing? We’ve got lots of in person challenge event ideas too.
Rags to riches
Sell your unwanted clothes or items on e-Bay, or at a car boot sale. You can also raise money for us when you shop using Amazon Smile. Signing up is simple, and every time you shop we receive a donation.
You will be surprised at the sorts of things that people are willing to buy! Check out our ideas to help you get selling. If you donate your unwanted clothes to Re-fashion, an online charity shop, they will donate a proportion of the proceeds to us.
Charity football match
Bring a competitive element into your fundraising by organising a charity football match or 5-a-side tournament. Each team pays to enter, with extra forfeits for anyone who’s given a red or yellow card.
Spectators can join in the fun by holding a sweepstake to predict the winning team.
Go purple for the day
Add a purple theme to your fundraising by organising a dress-down day at work/college with everyone donating £1-2 to wear purple. Purple is the internationally recognised colour to raise awareness of domestic violence and abuse. You could even get sponsored to dye your hair purple!
Whatever you choose, setting up a donation page via Just Giving is a great way of providing a safe and easy way for people to donate.
Hold a virtual event
From a gaming marathon to hosting an online gig – holding a virtual event is a great way of raising money. You can livestream directly from your Just Giving page which can keep things simple and means that people are automatically linked with your donation page. Other options include Facebook Live, StreamYard and Zoom. If you are advertising your event via Eventbrite then you can connect your event to Zoom so that attendees are sent the link to your event when they register.
Online classes
Sharing your skills via a virtual class is a great way to fundraise from the comfort of your own home. Whether its a craft workshop, baking session, or fitness class – everyone has something to offer. One of the most important things to consider for your online class is the platform to host it from. This needs to be a platform that you feel comfortable with.
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to plan for your event and get the message out there to increase attendees and donations!
