Women’s Aid welcomes Kay’s Law to provide better protection for survivors

“We welcome this much-needed change to the law. At Women’s Aid, we’ve been calling to reverse the pre-charge bail reforms since 2017, as these restrictions on the use of bail have left survivors unprotected while they wait for their perpetrator to face justice. The dramatic reduction in the use of bail over the past four years has meant highly dangerous offenders are being released while investigations are ongoing without basic bail conditions, such as not to contact the victim or go to her home. The family of Kay Richardson have bravely called for urgent changes to the law, after she was tragically murdered by a perpetrator who was released under investigation without bail conditions, to protect others from injustice.”
