Resources for children and young people

Supporting women and babies after domestic abuse

This toolkit for early years equips domestic abuse specialists with appropriate knowledge and skills to support pregnant women and women with babies and toddlers.

It will help domestic abuse workers to build:

  • an understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on early parenting;
  • an understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on the development of infants and very young children;
  • and a model of support that is woman centred and infant centred.

Children’s Welcome Pack: Third Edition

The Children’s Welcome Pack is a unique and invaluable resource for any refuge or children’s worker to use with young survivors of domestic violence. This third edition has been updated and split into three separate packs aimed at different age groups.

Illustrated in bright colours with plenty of space to encourage creativity, the packs are fun for children to use and aim to help them feel at home in their new environment. Moving into a refuge is a very unsettling experience for children, who may be leaving behind toys, belongings and friends. The packs help children to understand what a refuge is and what life will be like, and help with self-esteem building. The activities in the packs can help children to express their feelings, and help start conversations to explore them further.

Each pack is free to download.
